E-ticket stands for “electronic ticket”, which is computer generated and replaces paper tickets. Generally speaking, you will be issued an E-ticket when you book a ticket either by phone or on-line and pay with a credit card.
All that is required of you when traveling on an E-ticket is to have a government issued photo ID with you to present at check-in. It is, however, highly recommended that when you travel you carry the itinerary confirmation papers your reservation agency emailed or faxed you when you booked your trip. These documents can be very useful in the event of a computer reservation mix-up, or when checking your bags to your destination on connecting airlines.
Currently, some of the smaller airlines such as Great Lakes Airlines do not have E-ticket agreements with the on-line travel agencies. As such, if you book a trip that includes Great Lakes, thru an on-line travel agency, you will have to travel on paper tickets, which will be mailed to you by the booking agency for a small postage fee.
