Welcome home! New terminal opens its doors

North Platte Regional Airport is pleased to announce the opening of our new passenger terminal, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 10th. Federal, state, and local leaders joined us to mark the occasion — the largest investment in our commercial aviation infrastructure in more than 70 years, and a proud new chapter for air travel in west-central Nebraska.

This $30 million terminal was made possible through a combination of federal and state support, anchored by an $8 million FAA Airport Terminals Program grant, with additional funding from Congressionally Directed Spending, FAA entitlement dollars, and the State of Nebraska. Altogether, we secured $21.8 million in federal funds — several times our annual operating budget — a testament to the strength of the partnerships behind this project.

Our previous terminal, built back in 1952, served this community well for generations, but it was never designed for the realities of modern travel. We're excited to welcome passengers into a space built for today: jet bridge boarding, expanded concessions, smoother passenger flow, and bright, comfortable waiting areas filled with natural light.

We also set out to build responsibly. The new terminal is on track for LEED Gold certification, featuring mass timber construction, geothermal heating and cooling, energy-generating skylight glass, stormwater reuse systems, and EV charging stations — sustainable choices we hope will serve this community for decades.

As the only primary commercial airport serving much of western Nebraska, we're honored to keep connecting our region — supporting local businesses, travelers, and everyone who calls this part of the state home.

We welcomed our first arriving passengers on August 11th, and our first departure took flight the following morning. We can't wait for you to experience the new terminal for yourself.
